Men's Soccer Loses to TAMIU

AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's men's soccer surrendered two goals in the second half of a 2-0 loss to the Texas A&M International Dustdevils.

The Hilltoppers were aggressive, with a 6-3 advantage in shots taken in the first half, including one on goal that TAMIU keeper Gal Grodetzki stopped, going into the break with a scoreless tie.

Texas A&M International opened the second half with two quick shots and a corner, with St. Edward's keeper KELLEN GULLION saving one shot and breaking up the corner.

The Dustdevils finally broke through in the 68th minute when Johan Portales received a pass from Lassana Diakite and turned past a St. Edward's defender attempting a slide tackle to create an open lane for the goal.

Texas A&M International scored less than three minutes later when a ball sent back to the keeper against pressure was misplayed, and Diakite capitalized with a goal.

St. Edward's had a 10-8 advantage in shots attempted, including 4-3 with shots on goal. The Hilltoppers also generated a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Hilltoppers fall to 0-8-5 with a 0-3-3 conference record. St. Edward's will travel to play Midwestern State University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
