AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's men's soccer celebrated graduate student MARTIN TELLEZ in his last game at the Hilltop but fell short on the pitch in a 2-0 loss to Lubbock Christian.

The Hilltoppers opened aggressively, generating a 9-5 advantage in shots taken, putting two on goal in a scoreless first half for both teams. The Hilltoppers had opportunities when BARTEK ZABEK and JOAQUIN MAUD each attempted a shot less than a minute apart, with Maud's attempt stopped by Lubbock Christian keeper Tom Miles.

Lubbock Christian put three shots on goal in the first half, all of which were stopped by starting goalkeeper KELLEN GULLION. The Hilltoppers closed the half with three shots over the last six minutes but couldn't connect.

The Chaps broke through in the 62nd minute on a feed from Nicolo Tocco to Nako Amare for the goal. Less than a minute later, Amare found Saimon Gjeci for the insurance goal.

Zabek finished with four shots, including one on goal, to lead the team. Gullion had three saves. The Hilltoppers finished with an 18-12 advantage in shots taken, though both teams put five attempts on goal. The Hilltoppers also had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
