Softball Splits Doubleheader With Regis

AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's softball split its doubleheader against Regis on Saturday, dropping a 9-1 game before a 3-0 victory for its third shutout in the previous five games in its first games at Diane Daniels Field this season.

Game 1: Regis 9, St. Edward's 1

Both teams opened with two strikeouts, and a walk in a scoreless first inning before Regis's bats woke up in the second. Olivia Wick led off with a walk, then moved to second on a groundout by Megan Clark.

Sienna Reed followed with an RBI single, followed by an RBI double from Katherin Raper. Later, a walk brought in a third run, followed by a two-out RBI single from Miia Campos. Regis added another run in the fifth on a wild pitch.

MEGAN MORRIS put St. Edward's on the scoreboard in the fifth with an RBI triple, driving in ARIANNA VIDALES

Regis added four more runs in the sixth off two hits, two walks, and an error. St. Edward's left two stranded in the sixth.

Game 2: St. Edward's 3, Regis 0

CADIE BELLE CURRIE delivered another complete-game shutout win, striking out six and allowing only three hits in a 3-0 win.

Currie retired the first seven hitters in order before allowing a double and walk in the top for the third. Regis's Jessi Case laid down a sacrifice bunt to put runners on second and third before Campos flew out to left to end the inning.

KATIE DILLON and YVONNE CASTILLO opened the second with back-to-back singles, then stole second and third, setting the stage for Dillon to score on an error.

LAUREN HOYT hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth, scoring Dillon. Vidales followed with an RBI single to center to score Castillo.

Currie retired the side in order in the fifth and seventh innings to end the game. Dillon, Castillo, and Vidales each hit 2-for-3 to lead the Hilltopper offense.

St. Edward's improves to 6-3 with the win. The Hilltoppers host Texas Woman's University next weekend in a three-game series with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 1:00 p.m.
