AUSTIN, Texas – CADIE BELLE CURRIE put together another dominant performance in the pitcher's circle, and St. Edward's softball bounced back from the previous day's losses for a 3-0 win over Texas Woman's University.
Currie (4-1) threw her fourth complete-game shutout of the season, striking out six with no walks and only three hits allowed. The junior pitcher from Grapeland, Texas, retired the first nine hitters she faced in order, not allowing a baserunner until a leadoff single in the fourth.
St. Edward's provided all the runs she'd need in the first inning and added an insurance run in the third. ARIANNA VIDALES reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the first, and Gabi Lope followed with a single to right field to put runners on the corners. After Lopez stole second base, MEGAN MORRIS came through with a two-RBI double to left field for the 2-0 lead.
ALEXIS MASSIE and ELLA HUTZLER hit back-to-back doubles with two outs in the third inning, scoring Massie on Hutzler's double to right-center.
Missy Wise hit a one-out double for Texas Woman's in the top of the fifth, but Currei recovered to strike out Lily Wilson and Alexys Ginegaw to get out of the inning.
Ciana Rodriguez hit a leadoff single for the Pioneers in the sixth, but Kennedy Marlow and Tyler Lane each grounded out, and Currie rang up Boley to escape the inning unscathed. Texas Woman's went down in order in the top of the seventh inning.
Dillon had two hits for St. Edward's, including a triple, but plated no runs. Morris, Massies, and Hutzler were each 1-for-3. Morris had the two RBIs, Hutzler added another RBI, and Massie scored. Lopez was 1-for-1 with a walk and was hit by a pitch.
St. Edward's improves to 7-5 with a 1-2 conference record. The Hilltoppers will travel to Oklahoma Christian early next week for a three-game series kicked off by a doubleheader on Tuesday.
