Softball Drops Final Road Game Against Texas A&M-Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Kayla Gonzalez hit a three-RBI double in the bottom of the fourth as part of a four-run inning to lead Texas A&M-Kingsville past St. Edward's with a 5-3 win to complete the series sweep.

Texas A&M-Kingsville struck first in the bottom of the third inning. Breanna Carr hit a leadoff single, then stole second to get in scoring position for Matisen Onofrei's RBI single through the left side.

Lechner drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fourth, followed by Rodriguez bunting for a single. Then, after Oborski popped up to the catcher for the first out of the inning, St. Edward's replaced CADIE BELLE CURRIE with KYLEN PADGETT in the pitcher's circle.

Padgett surrendered an RBI single to Cervantes, who advanced to second on the throw from the outfield, putting two in scoring position. Saenz pinch-hit for Carr and drew a walk to load the bases, and Gonzalez delivered the double to center field to score all three for the 5-0 lead.

HAILEY SONKA drew a two-out walk, and KATIE DILLON reached on an error in the fifth inning. Sonka scored on a passed ball, and Dillon scored on an infield single from JERZIE PELHAM

After both teams went scoreless in the sixth, St. Edward's started the seventh with two consecutive hits. Sonka bunted for a leadoff single, and Dillon hit a double to left-center. KAILEE SKIDGEL pinch-hit for Pelham and grounded out to second, scoring Sonka. MEGAN MORRIS lined out to shortstop to end the game.

St. Edward's drops to 12-9 with a 6-6 conference record. The Hilltoppers will host St. Mary's for a Tuesday doubleheader with a third game on Wednesday.
