WICHITA FALLS, Texas – St. Edward's softball bounced back with a 2-1 victory over Midwestern State University behind a solid performance in the pitcher's circle from senior RENNA TOOMEY and timely hitting by ALEXIS MASSIE and KATIE DILLON. 

The Hilltoppers struck in the top of the first, getting a one-out double from Dillon to center field, then a two-out RBI double from Massie, who was thrown out trying to stretch the hit to a triple to end the inning with a 1-0 lead. 

Toomey retired the side in order in the first, third, fourth, and fifth innings and three of four in the second. 

HAILEY SONKA sparked the Hilltoppers with a one-out single off a bunt in the sixth. Then, after she stole second, ARIANNA VIDALES reached off an error, putting runners at the corners. Finally, Dillon drove in Vidales with a single to center field. 

After striking out Garcia and getting Bryant to ground out to start the bottom of the sixth with two outs, Toomey surrendered back-to-back hits. First, Bryant singled to center field, then Roberts drove her in with an RBI double to left center, ending Toomey's afternoon. 

CADIE BELLE CURRIE replaced Toomey in the pitcher's circle and got out of the inning. Currie retired the side in order in the seventh to earn the save. 

Toomey (W, 3-1) pitched 5.2 innings, surrendering four hits and one run with five strikeouts and no walks. Currie retired all four hitters she faced for her second save. Dillon hit 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, Massie hit 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Sonka hit 1-for-2 with a run scored. 

St. Edward's wraps up the regular season with a 26-25 record, including 20-22 in conference play, earning the ninth seed in the Lone Star Conference Tournament, which will be played in Tyler, Texas, at Irwin Ballpark. The Hilltoppers will play Angelo State on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
