TAMPA, Fla. – St. Edward's women's soccer wrapped up its Florida trip with a 4-0 loss to the No. 25-ranked University of Tampa Spartans.
Tampa put pressure on around the 17-minute mark, getting a shot on goal from Jalyssa Richardson. Hilltopper keeper
HANNAH SIMPSON stopped the shot, but shortly after, the Spartans earned a corner, followed almost a minute later by the match's first goal from Madison McElhone 26 minutes in.
Eight minutes later, Mimi Cronquist found Tali O'Leary for Tampa's second goal of the game.
St. Edward's put two shots together in a four-minute stretch in the second half, getting one from
KATIE GAY 12 minutes into the half and another on goal four minutes later from
CAITLYN GONZALEZ, stopped by Tampa goalie Aidan Smith.
Tampa immediately went back on the offensive, netting a goal by Cronquist on a feed from Nellie Bryneus for the 3-0 lead a little more than 71 minutes in. Less than a minute later, Bryneus added her own goal on a feed by O'Leary.
St. Edward's generated five shots, including four on goal. Tampa had 11 shots, with eight on goal and four saved by Simpson. The Spartans also had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Hilltoppers drop to 1-1-1 and will return to the pitch on September 20 when they host Angelo State at 4 p.m.
