LAREDO, Texas – St. Edward's men's soccer surrendered four goals in the second half, losing 5-2 on the road at Texas A&M International.
Both teams generated a combined 16 shots in the first half, with Texas A&M International owning a 9-7 advantage. The Dustdevils struck first at the 19-minute mark when Johan Portales found Jorge Amaya for the goal on TAMIU's third shot on goal.
St. Edward's
JETHRO VOURJOLO responded with the equalizer with less than 10 minutes remaining in the half, notching his second goal of the season on an unassisted score.
Texas A&M International struck early in the second half to retake the lead on a goal by Guy Lehrer off a set of quick passes from Amaya and Portales, with the latter earning his second assist of the game at the 48:42 mark. Less than five minutes later, Portales added a goal of his own to put TAMIU up 3-1. Jordan Mase scored another TAMIU goal at just under 57 minutes off a feed from Yahir Gallardo.
CARLOS HUATO broke up the scoring run with his second goal of the season at the 58:35 mark, but Portales answered a few minutes later with his second goal of the game off an assist from Amaya.
St. Edward's drops to 0-4-1 while Texas A&M International improves to 4-2-0. The Hilltoppers will host St. Mary's on Saturday at 1 p.m.
