DENTON, Texas – St. Edward's women's soccer allowed two goals in the first half in a 2-0 loss to Texas Woman's University on the road.
After a scoreless first 25 minutes, the Pioneers got a boost from their bench when Giselle Gutierrez entered the game at 26:21 and scored a goal on a feed from Abby Powers at the 27-minute mark. Seven minutes later, Gutierrez added a goal to her assist, finding the back of the net on a feed from Rylee Avery.
St. Edward's responded with three shots in the final 10 minutes of the half but couldn't convert, trailing 2-0 at the break. Texas Woman's University outshot St. Edward's 8-2 in the second half to take a 13-11 shots advantage for the game.
KATIE FITZPATRICK had four shots for St. Edward's, Carina Wust and
CAITLYN GONZALEZ had two each, and
ARI RAMIREZ,
ALYSSA GARCIA, and
TRISTYN CABELLO each added a shot attempt.
St. Edward's drops to 2-2-1 with a 1-1-0 conference record, TWU improves to 6-1-1 with a 1-1-0 conference record. The Hilltoppers will host St. Mary's on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
