AUSTIN, Texas – In a battle between high-altitude training of the mile-high city and extreme temperature training of Central Texas, the two canceled each other out in a scoreless draw between the MSU Denver Roadrunners and St. Edward's Hilltoppers women's soccer teams.
St. Edward's created several opportunities in the first half, especially with
ARI RAMIREZ utilizing her pace to burn the defense, but failed to capitalize on the final push in the final third.
The Hilltoppers generated three shots in the first half, putting two on goal, but both were well within MSU Denver keeper Maddie Reinebold's reach. The half ended with St. Edward's carrying a 3-2 edge in shots and both teams earning two corner kicks.
St. Edward's turned to freshman keeper
DARIA SCHLUMBOHM to start the second half, and MSU Denver tested her early and often. The Roadrunners took control of possession for a significant portion of the second half, firing 11 shots and five corner kicks while preventing St. Edward's from attempting either. Schlumbohm showcased poise and range, stopping all three on-goal attempts from MSU Denver and deflecting several other dangerous balls in traffic to preserve the clean sheet.
The Hilltoppers' bend-but-don't-break defensive effort earned St. Edward's its third consecutive draw against MSU Denver. St. Edward's will travel to Florida next week to play Eckerd on Friday and Tampa on Sunday.
