Men's Cross Country Finishes Ninth at NCAA Regionals

| By:
DENVER – St. Edward's men's cross country made its mark on Colorado's freshly fallen snow and program record books with the Hilltoppers' first top-10 finish in the NCAA South Central Regional, placing ninth.

"I'm so proud of the guys and the effort they gave today. The conditions they faced would be tough for anyone, but they displayed a ton of resilience," St. Edward's Head Cross Country Coach Steven Cary says. "Once again, it wasn't the prettiest race we've run all season, but we ran as a team, and the guys pulled through when they needed to at the end. I'm proud of them."

St. Edward's placed three runners in the top 50. OMAR GUZMAN paced the Hilltoppers at 32:41.5, finishing 36th with a new personal record. DYLAN SEQUEIRA was the second Hilltopper to cross the finish line at 33:08.6, placing 46th. IVAN GUZMAN finished 50th at 33:18.1.

"These seniors have set the bar high. They've continued to get better every year and shown what can be done if you just put the work in consistently," Cary says. "This is a great way to send them out."

HOGAN HEIKKINEN placed 73rd at 34:12.0, and ARLO GONZALES rounded out St. Edward's top five in 100th at 35:09.2. AJ PENA (124th, 36:12.7) and WILLIAM SULENTICH (130th, 36:29.0) also competed.

"It's a historic day for this program. The bar has been set now," Cary says. "I'm looking forward to building on this moving forward."
