LAKEWOOD, Colo. – St. Edward's softball closed its Colorado road trip with two losses to No. 21-ranked Colorado Christian in Sunday's doubleheader.
Game 1: Colorado Christian 5, St. Edward's 0
Colorado Christian scored in each of the first four innings, including two runs in the second, and kept St. Edward's off the scoreboard in a 5-0 victory over the Hilltoppers.
Roope plated Colorado Christian's first run with a two-out RBI single down the right-field line to score Kenzie Middleton, who opened the game with a single to left-center. The Cougars scored on a passed ball and an RBI fielder's choice from Middleton in the second for a 3-0 lead.
Leah Garcia added an RBI single to left-center in the third, and Kaila Eastburn drove in Middleton with a single to center in the fourth for the final run of the game.
ARIANNA VIDALES,
AUDRI CASTILLO, and
ALEA DESERRANO each had a hit for St. Edward's, and
KATIE DILLON drew a walk.
CADIE BELLE CURRIE (L, 1-5) pitched six innings, with four of her five runs surrendered earned off six hits with two walks.
Middleton and Garcia each had two hits for Colorado Christian, with Middleton driving in an RBI and scoring two runs. Emma Duncan (W, 5-0) pitched all seven innings, surrendering three hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
Game 2: Colorado Christian 9, St. Edward's 1
Colorado Christian plated a run in all five innings in Game 2, including two in the second inning and four in the fourth, for a 9-1 win over St. Edward's.
Middleton opened the game with a leadoff home run to left field, Garcia hit a two-run blast in the second, and Eastburn hit a solo blast in the third for the 4-0 lead.
JERZIE PELHAM put St. Edward's on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with an RBI single down the left-field line, driving in
LAUREN HOYT, who reached on a two-out walk.
Colorado Christian responded with Garcia's two-run blast in the bottom of the evening, Eastburn added an RBI double, and Camryn Quilling scored Edward's on a sacrifice fly. Edwards added the final run with a single through the right side in the fifth to end the game at 9-1.
Pelham and Hoyt each had a hit for St. Edward's.
ARIANNA VIDALES drew two walks, and Hoyt and
CHARLOTTE NUCCIO each drew a walk.
KYLEN PADGETT (L, 1-3) went three innings, surrendering five runs on four hits and four walks.
St. Edward's falls to 2-8. The Hilltoppers will open conference play at home next Friday against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
