Late Surge by Colorado Christian Downs SEU Softball

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – St. Edward's softball surrendered eight runs over the final three innings, highlighted by a two-run blast in the sixth inning of an 8-0 loss to No. 14 Colorado Christian.

CADIE BELLE CURRIE (L, 1-3) and the Hilltopper defense were solid through the first three innings, retiring nine of the first ten hitters and ending the bottom of the third on a double play.

Colorado Christian broke through in the fourth with a leadoff triple by Kayla Middleton, who scored on a sacrifice fly from Kaila Eastburn for the 1-0 lead. Her twin sister, Kenzie Middleton, struck in the fifth with an RBI single down the right-field line, followed by an RBI single from Kayla. Kenzie Middleton later scored on a fielder's choice.

Logan Menzies hit a two-run home run in the sixth, ending Currie's afternoon. KYLEN PADGETT relieved her and eventually surrendered a walk-off two-RBI single to Cheyenne Stark.

ARIANNA VIDALES and HAILEY SONKA each hit 1-for-2 for St. Edward's, with Vidales also drawing a walk. Eastburn went all six innings in the shutout win.

St. Edward's drops to 1-5. The Hilltoppers will remain in Colorado and play MSU-Denver in a doubleheader tomorrow at noon and 2:00 p.m. CT.
