Softball Drops Game 1 to Lubbock Christian

AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's softball surrendered two big innings to Lubbock Christian in a 15-3 loss to open the three-game home series.

Lightning delayed the game for over an hour, but Lubbock Christian worked quickly once play started. The first four Chaps reached safely, scoring on Hope Banales' two-RBI single up the middle before the Hilltopper defense recorded its first out.

An infield single and a walk added another run and loaded the bases, paving the way for Baylea Myer's two-RBI single to right-center and ending KYLEN PADGETT's day in the pitcher's circle. LISETTE URQUIDEZ came out of the bullpen and got two of the following three hitters out, with Sydnee Bowlin hitting an RBI infield single for the 6-0 lead.

St. Edward's committed two errors and surrendered seven hits in an eight-run Lubbock Christian third inning. After a leadoff single and an error put two Lady Chaps on bases, Urquidez surrendered five consecutive singles to put St. Edward's behind 11-0. MAKENNA HOLLOWAY replaced Urquidez and surrendered a Banales two-RBI double and a sacrifice fly before getting out of the inning.

ELLA HUTZLER and SLOANE HILL drew back-to-back walks, with one out at the bottom of the fourth, and both moved into scoring positions on a LAUREN HOYT groundout. MEGAN MORRIS followed with an RBI infield single to put the Hilltoppers on the scoreboard. After AUDRI CASTILLO drew a walk, JERZIE PELHAM hit a two-RBI double down the left-field line.

Lubbock Christian added another run on a walk with bases loaded for the 15-3 lead.

Holloway finished the game with three strikeouts, three walks, and one of two runs surrendered earned on three hits in three innings. KATIE DILLON, Hutzler, Morris, and Pelham each had a hit for St. Edward's.

St. Edward's falls to 8-21 with a 6-13 conference record after the loss. The Hilltoppers will conclude the series with a doubleheader tomorrow starting at noon.
