AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's men's soccer kept the Academy of Art on its heels for most of its 90-minute game but missed opportunities and one critical mistake cost the Hilltoppers a 1-0 loss to the Urban Knights.
The Hilltoppers tested the defense early and often, generating three shots and a corner in the first minute of action. St. Edward's kept the pressure on with another corner and three more shots over the next five minutes before
ARTHUR SOUZA finally put one on goal, stopped by Academy of Art keeper Florian Grollman.
St. Edward's controlled possession for most of the half, taking 15 shots while holding the Academy of Art without a single attempt and generating a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks in a scoreless first half.
The Hilltoppers' inability to capitalize cost them when the Urban Knights took possession near the back end of St. Edward's attacking third, played a long pass over the top of the defense and then got a one-touch pass from Kristian Lonvig to Keita Goto in perfect stride for the game's lone goal.
St. Edward's appeared perpetually on the verge of breaking through with 23 shots to the Academy of Art's two but only managed six on goal, which were all turned away by Grollman.
The Hilltoppers drop to 1-3-1 with the loss. St. Edward's will travel this week to Laredo, Texas, to play Texas A&M International on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
