AUSTIN, Texas –
MARIE HANNEDOUCHE scored twice in the first half,
DARIA SCHLUMBOHM recorded eight saves, and St. Edward's women's soccer held off a late push to defeat Lubbock Christian 2–1 Saturday evening.
The Hilltoppers dictated the tempo early, building steady pressure down the right sideline through McKenna Keely's perfectly weighted passes into open space for Hannedouche. The sequence produced two corner kicks within the first five minutes and a pair of close-range looks for
ANDREA SANTANA and
SIERRA PADILLA before
BAILEY WILLIAMS tested goalkeeper Emma Wright with the first shot on goal.
Hannedouche broke through in the 18th minute, dispossessing a Lubbock Christian player near midfield, carrying the ball just outside the box, and shaking off a sliding defender before launching a rocket into the back-left corner of the net.
Seven minutes later, she struck again. Williams found
RAINEY SIMMONS streaking into the deep corner on an overlapping run, and Simmons sent a cross into the box. A Lady Chap defender's attempted header clearance fell to Hannedouche, who froze another defender with a stepover and buried her second goal.
St. Edward's outshot Lubbock Christian 10–6 in the first half and held a 3–0 edge in corner kicks, creating several dangerous chances but settling for a 2–0 halftime lead.
The Lady Chaps came out stronger after the break, earning an early corner and two quick shots before Trinity Doom converted a free kick in the 52nd minute to cut the deficit in half. Lubbock Christian continued to apply pressure, outshooting St. Edward's 13–5 in the second half, including one shot off the post that rebounded directly to a Lady Chap attacker—only for Schlumbohm to make a spectacular save to preserve the lead.
From there, the Hilltopper defense locked in, clearing crosses and controlling possession to close out the win.
St. Edward's improves to 6–8–2 overall and 5–5–2 in Lone Star Conference play. The Hilltoppers visit Texas Woman's University next Saturday before closing the regular season at home on Nov. 4 against Sul Ross State.
