DALLAS – St. Edward's men's soccer earned a 2–2 draw against Dallas Baptist on Saturday night at Patriot Soccer Field, capping a back-and-forth Lone Star Conference battle in which both sides traded momentum and goals across 90 minutes.
The Hilltoppers (7–5–4, 5–2–2 LSC) struck early when a deflected cross turned into an own goal in the sixth minute, giving St. Edward's a 1–0 lead before either side could settle into rhythm. DBU (6–6–4, 3–4–3) clawed back late in the first half when Jared Perez finished a combination from Colby deLeeuw and Cason Berg in the 40th minute to even the score before halftime.
DBU carried that surge into the second half, taking its first lead when Caden Berg tucked away a cross from Gavyn Rosales in the 63rd minute. But St. Edward's quickly answered after sustained pressure drew a penalty kick that IZAIAH GARZA calmly converted in the 74th minute — his third goal of the season — to bring the Hilltoppers level again.
From there, both sides continued probing for a winner. BARTEK ZABEK generated two dangerous chances, forcing a save early in the half and seeing another shot blocked near the top of the box, while Kaleo Francis anchored the Hilltopper back line with five saves to preserve the draw.
St. Edward's finished with 56 percent possession and an 8–4 edge in shots on goal despite DBU's 13–8 advantage in total attempts.
The Hilltoppers are currently even in the standings with Lubbock Christian owning the head-to-head tiebreaker for the second first-round LSC Tournament bye. St. Edward's hosts West Texas A&M in its regular-season finale on Wednesday, and Lubbock Christian is at Sul Ross State University.
