WICHITA FALLS, Texas – St. Edward's softball surrendered 10 runs over the final three innings to fall 11-6 to Midwestern State and split the day's doubleheaders.
KATIE DILLON drew a leadoff walk to start the game, and St. Edward's manufactured that into the game's first run.
SOFIA APONTE moved Dillon over with a sacrifice bunt, and
MEGAN MORRIS delivered the RBI single.
Midwestern State tied the game in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of an error on a potential double-play ball to score an unearned run on Linn's RBI double to right field.
Dillon scored again in the third, leading off with a single up the middle and moving into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from Aponte, plating an unearned run on a throwing error with two outs.
The Hilltopper defense recorded two quick outs with one runner on in the fourth, but Midwestern State rallied to reel off four consecutive hits, scoring three runs. Waller hit a one-out single to left field, but Stewart grounded into a fielder's choice with the out at second.
Roach energized Midwestern State's offense with a double to left center to put two runners in scoring position. Ayala, Jimenez, and Bryant hit three consecutive RBI singles for the 4-2 lead.
SLOANE HILL answered with an RBI single in the fifth, and St. Edward's loaded the bases with two outs but left all three stranded.

HALEY CARMONA hit Yezak to score another run, and a fielding error plated a fourth run in the inning for the 8-3 lead.
ELLA HUTZLER led off with a double to center in the sixth, and
ARIANNA VIDALES and Aponte each singled to score pinch-runner
JUNIPER DANIEL.
Midwestern State loaded the bases with two singles and a walk with two outs, and Jimenez cleared them with a three-RBI triple in the sixth.
St. Edward's loaded the bases to start the seventh with two singles and a hit batter. Hutzler scored
JERZIE PELHAM with an RBI single through the left side, then
LAUREN HOYT drove in
CIANA RODRIGUEZ with a sacrifice fly, but Midwestern State ended the game with consecutive outs.
Aponte, Hill, and Hutzler each had two hits, and Dillon walked twice with a hit and three runs scored.
MADDIE AGUILAR went 3.2 innings in the loss, surrendering three earned runs and four overall with no walks or strikeouts.
St. Edward's drops to 7-7 with a 1-3 conference record. The Hilltoppers will host Eastern New Mexico in a Friday doubleheader, then Western New Mexico on Sunday.
