AUSTIN, Texas – SLOANE HILL put together a spectacular day to lead St. Edward's softball to a sweep over Cameron, hitting 4-for-5 with two home runs, two doubles, two walks, four RBI, three runs scored, and a 2.400 slugging percentage.
Game 1: St. Edward's 8, Cameron 2
Hill and
LAUREN HOYT overpowered Cameron to open the doubleheader, combining for three home runs and five RBI in an 8-2 victory over the Aggies.
The game started slowly, producing only a single Cameron run through the first three-and-a-half innings on Boutwell's RBI single in the top of the first inning. Hill broke the scoring drought with a solo blast to left field in the bottom of the fourth, for her first of two in the game.
Hoyt followed with a double to left-center, setting up
CIANA RODRIGUEZ's RBI single up the middle.
ARIANNA VIDALES added an RBI double and
SOFIA APONTE an RBI single for the 4-1 lead.
Cameron drew a leadoff walk in the top of the fifth inning and manufactured it into a run, moving Middleton to third on a sac bunt and a groundout, then scoring on Boutwell's second RBI single of the day.
Hoyt answered with a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning, driving in Hill, who reached on a double to left field. Hill added a two-run blast in the sixth, her fourth this season.
Hill was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two home runs and a double, driving in three RBI and scoring twice. Hoyt and Vidales each hit 2-for-3. Hoyt contributed two RBIs and scored two runs, and Vidales scored one RBI and one run.
KATIE DILLON hit 3-for-4.
LISETTE URQUIDEZ (W, 6-4) pitched a complete game, surrendering two runs on eight hits with a strikeout and a walk.
Game 2: St. Edward's 3, Cameron 1
MADDIE AGUILAR (W, 4-2) posted a complete-game victory in St. Edward's 3-1 win over the Cameron Aggies to complete the sweep.
Cameron's K. Creech hit a solo blast in the top of the first inning, driving in the Aggies' lone run.
Hill drew a leadoff walk in the second, and the Hilltoppers manufactured that into a run, moving her over on a sac bunt from Hoyt and then tying the game on an RBI single up the middle from
SOFIA APONTE.
AVI MARTINEZ singled to left field in the third, and Hill drove her in with an RBI double to left-center for the lead. Hoyt hit a leadoff single in the sixth and a pinch-hitting
RYAN RANGEL drove her in with an RBI single to left field.
Hill finished the week hitting .800 (8-for-10) in four wins, blasting two home runs with three doubles, six RBI, four runs scored, and five walks for a 1.700 slugging percentage and .867 on-base percentage.
St. Edward's improves to 17-13 with an 11-9 conference record. The Hilltoppers will travel next weekend, playing Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday and Texas A&M International on Sunday.
