AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's STUNT made the most of a historic first home game for the program, defeating the Ottawa University Arizona Spirit 8-5 to the cheers of the Recreation and Athletics Center Crowd.
"Our first game on the Hilltop was historic and we came out with the W. The women focused on our strong development of technique and let that carry them to the victory," St. Edward's Head STUNT Coach says. "The celebration after sums it all up. The dancing and singing will be a memory they never forget. Way to get our third win, we're not done trying to secure more."
St. Edward's swept the first quarter, nailing routines one and two to take the early 2-0 lead after Partner Stunts. Both teams battled to a tie in the first round of the Pyramids and Tosses second quarter, and Ottawa earned its first outright point in the second round to cut St. Edward's lead to 3-2 at the half.
The Hilltoppers recaptured the momentum out of the break, sweeping the Jumps and Tumbling third quarter to go up 5-2 heading into the Team Routine.
St. Edward's took two of the three points in the first round of the fourth quarter, excelling in Partner Stunts and Jumps and Tumbling, but surrendering a point in Pyramids and Tosses. Both teams flipped scoring in the second round, with St. Edward's taking the Pyramids and Tosses and Ottawa scoring in Partner Stunts and Jumps and Tumbling.
The Hilltoppers up their third win of the season. Both teams will go head-to-head in a rematch on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. before playing Dallas Baptist and Texas Woman's University, with the Senior Day ceremony between the last two games.
