TYLER, Texas – St. Edward's softball opened the weekend with double-header losses against the No. 3-ranked UT Tyler Patriots.
Game 1: UT Tyler 8, St. Edward's 0
UT Tyler opened the game with four runs in the first inning. The Patriots got a two-RBI double from Ka'Lyn Watson, an RBI double from Abbie Behe, and a sac fly from Miia Campos.
The Patriots added three runs in the fourth on an RBI double from Bailey Krolczyk and RBI singles from Watson and Campos. Sam Schott hit the walk-off RBI single up the middle in the fifth.
St. Edward's loaded the bases in the third, sparked by a
SOFIA APONTE single through the left side, but left all three stranded. Aponte and
ARIANNA VIDALES each posted a hit.
Game 2: UT Tyler 8, St. Edward's 1
LISETTE URQUIDEZ and the Hilltopper defense slowed UT Tyler down until a five-run sixth inning in an 8-1 Hilltopper loss.
Urquidez hit JT Smith and walked Schott, setting up Campos's RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the first. Watson hit a solo blast in the fourth, and a pinch-hitting Sam Garcia hit an RBI single to give the Patriots a 3-0 lead.
ELLA HUTZLER sparked St. Edward's with a one-out double to left-center, and
SLOANE HILL drove in a pinch-running
JERZIE PELHAM to pull to within 3-1.
The Patriots scored five runs on four hits in the sixth, highlighted by an RBI triple and punctuated by a two-run blast from Krolczyk.

LAUREN HOYT,
CIANA RODRIGUEZ, and
KATIE DILLON posted a hit. St. Edward's drops to 24-20 with an 18-16 conference record. The Hilltoppers will play at Texas Woman's University on Sunday.
