Softball Defeats Texas A&M-Kingsville to Clinch LSC Tournament Berth

AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's softball celebrated Senior Day by giving its seniors the greatest gift of all, getting a walk-off win against Texas A&M-Kingsville to clinch the final spot in the Lone Star Conference Tournament and extend their collegiate careers. 
 
Game 1: St. Edward 7, Texas A&M-Kingsville 6
 
St. Edward's exploded for four runs in the bottom of the 11th, and ELLA HUTZLER delivered the walk-off RBI deep into the hole between third and shortstop, driving in senior KATIE DILLON for the 7-6 victory.
 
MEGAN MORRIS kicked off her final day on the diamond at Diane Daniels Field with a two-RBI single through the right side, scoring Dillon and Hutzler in the bottom of the first. The Javelinas tied the game in the fourth inning, drawing five walks off starter LISETTE URQUIDEZ in a hitless inning. 
 
MADDIE AGUILAR replaced Urquidez to start the fifth, and the game remained deadlocked at two until Campbell delivered an RBI single to right-center in the 10th inning. Senior LAUREN HOYT tied the game with an RBI single to center field, scoring Morris, with JERZIE PELHAM thrown out at home trying to stretch the extra base on the throw from center field. 
 
Aguilard recorded two quick outs to start the 11th, but the Javelinas reeled off three runs on three hits to take a 6-3 lead.
 
St. Edward's loaded the bases on two singles and an error in the 11th. The Hilltoppers plated two runs on a throwing error, then tied the game on SLOANE HILL's sacrifice fly to center field. Hutzler followed with the walk-off, earning the Hilltoppers the eighth seed in the conference tournament. 
 
Game 2: Texas A&M-Kingsville 7, St. Edward's 6
 
St. Edward's and Texas A&M-Kingsville went into extra innings for a second game, with the Javelinas getting an inside-the-park home run from Evans in the ninth inning for the 7-6 win. 
 
Hutzler delivered an RBI single up the middle in the first, and ARIANNA VIDALES added another run with an RBI double to left-center in the second for the 2-0 lead. The Javlinas tied the game with a pair of RBI singles in the third. 
 
Hutzler and Morris hit back-to-back doubles to retake the lead in the third, and Hoyt extended it by driving in Morris for the 4-2 lead. Evans tied the game with an RBI double in the fifth, with a second run scoring on an error on the same play. 
 
Hill hit an RBI double in the sixth, followed by Hutzler's RBI single to center field for the 6-4 lead, but Evans tied the game with a two-run blast in the seventh. Evans lined a shot to right-center in the ninth that bounced off the fence for the inside-the-park home run for the game's final run. 
 
St. Edward's finishes the regular season with a 27-27 record, including 21-23 in conference play. The Hilltoppers will face top-seeded West Texas A&M on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Canyon, Texas.
