Women's Soccer Scores Seven Goals To Give Nick Cowell His 250th St. Ed's Victory

AUSTIN, TexasANNIE ROCHA recorded a first-half hat trick, and St. Edward's women's soccer rolled to a 7-0 shutout over North Greenville University on Thursday. The win marked the Hilltoppers' first of the season and the 250th career victory at St. Edward's for head coach Nick Cowell.

The Hilltoppers seized control early, firing off four shots and earning three corner kicks in the opening 10 minutes. Rocha set the tone with three early attempts, but it was MCKENNA KEELEY who opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Off a short-corner set piece, RAINEY SIMMONS triggered a quick give-and-go before serving the ball to Keeley for a back-post header.

Less than 20 seconds later, goalkeeper DARIA SCHLUMBOHM flipped the field with a deep clearance to Zavaleta Denova, who sped down the right flank and delivered a pinpoint cross to Rocha for her first goal.

Rocha doubled her tally less than a minute later, taking a deep ball from MARIE HANNEDOUCHE, splitting two defenders, and finishing with a left-leaning, right-footed strike. She completed her hat trick in the 25th minute when RILEY SISSON beat a defender inside the box and laid the ball off for Rocha, who blasted it home.

ANDREA SANTANA extended the lead just before halftime, winning a header near midfield and racing free for a 1-on-1 finish against NGU goalkeeper Anna Rickle.

The Hilltoppers tacked on two more after the break: AVA MAULDIN pounced on a loose ball in the box in the 56th minute, and Santana set up RILEY KNOX for a transition goal in the 70th.

St. Edward's outshot North Greenville 30-11, including 25 attempts in a relentless first half. The seven-goal outburst matched the program's highest output since a 7-0 victory over UT Permian Basin in 2019.

The Hilltoppers return to action Saturday at home against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
