TYLER, Texas – Two St. Edward's Hilltoppers finished in the top 25 at the UT Tyler Open in the men's cross country season opener.
St. Edward's withheld several runners rather than taxing the early with a one-week turnaround to the Texas A&M Invitational next summer. The tactic provided several Hilltoppers an opportunity to stretch their legs and shine.
Sophomore
PARKER STEVENS led St. Edward's with a time of 27:28.94, placing 17th in a paced first run for the Hilltoppers.
MELECIO ORTIZ followed a few runners later, clocking a 27:37.62 to finish 22nd.
WILLIAM SULENTICH and freshman
JAVIER RAMIREZ were the next two Hilltoppers to cross at 28:01.03 and 28:14.33, finishing 31st and 35th, respectively.
DYLAN MCCOY rounded out St. Edward's top five at 28:19.09.
St. Edward's will return to action in full force next Saturday at the Texas A&M Invitational.
