Chris Hill

Chris Hill was announced as St. Edward's head men's golf coach in June of 2018 after a three-year stint as Concordia-Texas University's men's and women's head golf coach.

In his first season at the helm Hill guided the Hilltoppers back to the NCAA Division II Regional after missing the cut in the previous season. SEU posted a seventh place finish at the Regional. SEU earned a spot in the postseason after a fourth place finish at the Heartland Conference Tournament where senior Hudson Ross finished tied for the lead but fell in the first playoff hole.

Hill’s coaching credentials began in Houston where he was the assistant golf coach for both the men’s and women’s program at Houston Baptist from 2008-10 before moving to the University of Houston. There he served as the assistant men’s golf coach until 2012 before being promoted to associate head coach until his departure in 2014. After one season as the head coach at the University of Pacific, Hill moved to Austin to take the reins of the Tornado program in July of 2015.

Hill’s tenure at Concordia-Texas produced the 2016 American Southwest Conference championship on the men’s side along with three consecutive appearances at the NCAA regional tournament, capped by the fourth-place finish at nationals in May. He was a two-time finalist for the Dave Williams National Coach of the Year Award, and the men’s team won a total of 14 tournaments in his three-year span. He earned the American Southwest Conference Men's Golf Coach of the Year twice and was the NCAA Division III West Region Coach of the Year in 2018.

Hill produced two all-Americans for the CTX men in Seger Howell and Logan Young along with three-time WGCA All-American Scholar Lauren Trofholz on the women’s side. After ranking in the 200s upon his arrival, the CTX women’s program finished as a Top 50 program in 2018.

In his one season with the University of the Pacific, Hill saw Byron Meth earn an individual appearance at the NCAA Regional tournament. In addition, he inherited a Powercats program that ranked 197th the year prior before surging to 79th in his only season at the helm in 2014-15.

At the conclusion of the 2015 season, Hill was selected as the assistant captain of the USA’s Palmer Cup, which featured the top NCAA Division I college men’s golfers as they competed in a Ryder-Cup style tournament in Sugar Grove, Ill.

In each of his last three seasons as an assistant at U of H, the Cougars advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament, highlighted by a national tournament appearance in his final season in 2014. He helped guide James Ross to an individual national runner-up finish, and on top of that, Hill earned the 2014 Jan Strickland Award given to the nation’s top assistant coach.

As a player, Hill played for his alma mater, Wayne State from 2002-06 and helped his team to a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference championship in 2004. After concluding his playing career, he spent one season as a graduate assistant coach at Wayne State (2006-07) before heading to work at the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head, S.C. before his departure for Houston Baptist in 2008.

Hill and his wife Alyssa have two children and reside in Austin. Hill earned his master’s degree in education with an emphasis on sports administration in April 2018.
