Matteo Curioni brings more than 30 years of coaching, player development and soccer leadership experience across the United States and Europe.
A native of Milan, Italy, Curioni has coached at the youth, academy, high school, collegiate and senior levels. Most recently, he joined the St. Edward’s University men’s soccer program as a volunteer assistant coach after spending the 2024-25 season in Italy with U.S. Gavirate, where he served as Assistant Academy Director and U14 Head Coach.
From 2020-23, Curioni held several leadership and coaching positions with A.S.D. Calvairate in Milan, including Technical Director for the First Team and U19 program, First Team Assistant Coach, First Team Head Coach, and Head Coach of the U19 and U17 teams.
During his tenure, he guided the First Team to maintain its status in the Eccellenza division, led the U17 team to the playoffs, and won two league titles and a League Cup with the U19 team across two seasons.
Curioni’s European experience also includes coaching the U18 and U16 academy teams at Dundee FC in Scotland. Earlier in his career, he spent nearly 20 years with ASD Centro Schuster in Milan, serving in roles including Youth Technical Director, Head Coach and Goalkeeper Coach.
In the United States, Curioni has served as Director of Coaching and Junior Academy Director for Dundee FC Juniors of Central Texas, Head of the Girls Soccer Program at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, and an assistant men’s soccer coach and goalkeeper coach at Concordia University Texas. His collegiate coaching experience also includes previous roles with St. Edward’s University and the University of La Verne.
Throughout his career, Curioni has focused on developing players technically, tactically and mentally while creating environments built around accountability, consistency and long-term player development. His experience includes developing club-wide training curricula, mentoring coaches and working with players across multiple stages of the development pathway.
Curioni holds a bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences from the University of Milan. He holds a U.S. Soccer Federation B License and UEFA B License and is currently completing his UEFA A License through the Scottish Football Association. His additional qualifications include the United Soccer Coaches Director of Coaching Diploma and Advanced National Diploma, as well as Sports Director certification through the Italian National Olympic Committee.
Curioni is a native Italian speaker and also speaks English and Spanish.
