St. Edward’s Athletics welcomed Nelson Terroba to the Hilltop as its assistant men’s basketball coach in the summer of 2025.
Before St. Edward’s, Terroba served as an assistant coach at Rice University last year, developing player development plans while assisting with recruiting, team camp, and scouting.
St. Ed’s new assistant coach has traveled the globe.
Terroba served as the head coach of the Calgary Surge in the summer of 2023, leading the team to the CEBL (Canada Elite Basketball League) championship game in the team’s inaugural season. The team had the top-ranked defense in the CEBL and featured six players with G League or NBA experience.
He was also the head coach and general manager of the Saint John Riptide of the National Basketball League-Canada from 2017 to 2019. He led the second-best defense during the 2017-18 season and the top-ranked defense the following season.
Terroba was the assistant coach of the Congo National Team during the FIBA Afro Cup, coaching Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga. He’s also led clinics in Colombia and Mexico, and worked at international camps in Vienna, Austria, and Tel Aviv, Israel.
Terroba also has six years of experience in the NBA G League, starting as an assistant and video coordinator for the Bakersfield Jam in 2011, an assistant for the Erie Bayhawks in 2016, and with the Texas Legends from 2019 through 2023 as associate head coach. He was also an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks’ 2021 summer league team.
He began coaching as the head boys' basketball coach for Dripping Springs High School from 2006 to 2008 and as the Austin High School associate head boys' basketball coach from 2008 to 2011. Terroba received his Bachelor of Journalism in 2000 from the University of Texas. He received his Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Lamar University in 2013.
