Number 16 St. Edward's fights off UT-Permian Basin, 2-1

Box Score AUSTIN , Texas -The 16 th-ranked St. Edward's Hilltoppers fought off a very determined UT-Permian Basin squad, 2-1, Monday afternoon at the SEU Soccer Field.

St. Edward's (10-2, 4-0 HC) got it started early, scoring in the fourth minute. Sophomore Robert Georgiefski took a through pass from junior Kevin Brolan and lined up a shot from 12 yards out. He beat the Falcon goalkeeper for his third goal of the season to put the Hilltoppers ahead, early, 1-0.

UT-Permian Basin (5-4-4, 1-2-2 HC) fought right back, scoring a goal in the 16 thminute. Carlos Guillen received a pass from Luis Paiva at the penalty kick spot and blasted a shot by Hilltopper goalkeeper Matt Moore to knot the score, 1-1.

That would be all the scoring in the first half as the Hilltoppers outshot their opposition, 6-1 in the opening frame.

In the second half, the Hilltoppers got the game-winning goal from sophomore Jorge Vega in the 63 rdminute. Junior Patrick Miller set up the play, and Glenn Marshall had a hand in it as well. Vega had an easy one-timer for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The Hilltoppers held the Falcons off the rest of the way fending off a Falcon attack which included a header that would have gone in goal if were not for junior Brandin Parras clearing it off of the goal line.

St. Edward's outshot UT-Permian Basin, 19-7, and sent 10 shots on goal, compared to just four for the Falcons.

St. Edward's will be back in action Friday when they travel to take on St. Mary's. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. in San Antonio. St. Mary's will provide the broadcast, so check the Hilltopper Web Schedule for a link to all the action.
