Hilltoppers cruise past number 23 Regis, 4-1, to open season

Box Score AUSTIN, Texas -The St. Edward's men's soccer team opened the season with an offensive explosion Sunday afternoon, defeating #23 Regis, 4-1.

St. Edward's (1-0-0) opened the scoring in the 17 thminute, when junior Kevin Klaus scored on a penalty kick to put the Hilltoppers ahead, 1-0. The Hilltoppers scored again in the 20 thminute when junior Josh Nannen scored on a pass from senior Patrick Miller.

Regis (0-2-0) pulled within one in the 30 thminute when freshman Kyle Reddy scored on a pass from junior James Copeland.

In the second half, the Hilltoppers tallied two goals. Sophomore Trey Perkins scored in the 66 thminute on a pass from junior Kevin Klaus. In the 73 rdminute, sophomore Glen Marshal split the Ranger defense and scored an unassisted goal to put the Hilltoppers up for good, 4-1.

St. Edward's was in control of this game from the opening whistle.

The Hilltoppers outshot Regis, 21-4, and nine to two in shots on goal. The Hilltoppers will be back in action Friday as they travel to Portales, New Mexico to take on Eastern New Mexico. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
