Number 18 St. Edward's suffers first loss of season, falls to number 6 Fort Lewis, 2-0

Box Score ARVADA, Colo. - The #18 St. Edward's men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a 2-0 decision to #6 Fort Lewis Sunday morning at Long Lake Ranch Park.

Fort Lewis (7-1-1) opened the scoring in the sixth minute when the Skyhawks were rewarded with a penalty kick because of a hand ball in the box. Tom Settle put the ball into the back of the net for 1-0 lead.

After both teams held each other in check the remainder of the first half, sophomore midfielder Sean Meller was taken down in the box and drew a penalty kick. Junior Kevin Klaus was stopped on the attempt by Skyhawk goalkeeper Zane Wells. Moments later, Klaus was taken down in the box and no call was given.

St. Edward's (7-1) had a couple of chances down the stretch but could not score. Fort Lewis put the game away with less than two minutes left when they received another penalty kick and Jeff Jennings scored.

Fort Lewis outshot St. Edward's, 18-6. Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Moore made eight saves on the morning.

St. Edward's will be back in action Friday when they travel take on #3 Midwestern State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Wichita Falls, Texas.
