Hilltoppers lose early lead, fall to number 20 Midwestern State, 4-1

Box Score WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The St. Edward's men's soccer team scored first but failed to hang on as they dropped a 4-1 decision to #20 Midwestern State Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field.

St. Edward's (0-6-2) got on the board early when senior Scott Strickland scored on a pass from senior Josh Nannen in the eighth minute.

The lead lasted until the 25 thminute when Midwestern State (7-1-2) knotted the score, 1-1. Paulo Teixiera connected on a penalty kick after a St. Edward's foul in the box. Midwestern State would take a lead into halftime when Bryan Sajjadi scored in the 36 thminute. Craig Sutherland and Ryan Spence assisted on the play.

In the second half, the home team was again rewarded with a penalty kick. Teixiera was called on again for the duties and he scored his second goal of the match in the 59 thminute.

The Mustangs added another goal in the 80 thminute when Jack Robertson capped off the scoring. The Hilltoppers were outshot by the Mustangs, 22-5, and Midwestern State had 10 shots on goal compared to three for St. Edward's.

St. Edward's will be back in action next weekend when it travels to Odessa to take on Heartland Conference rival UT-Permian Basin on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Hilltoppers will continue the road trip with a Sunday matchup versus Newman in Wichita, Kan. That match is set to kickoff at 1 p.m.
