Box Score AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's men's soccer team held #5 Midwestern State scoreless for the first 88 minutes of the match but Bryce Taylor's goal with 2:40 on the clock gave the Mustangs a 1-0 victory over the Hilltoppers Sunday morning at the SEU Soccer Field.
Midwestern State (1-1) sent a barrage of shots on the St. Edward's goal but junior goalkeeper Matt Moore was equal to the task, tallying six saves and the Hilltopper defense registering two more.
In the 33 rdminute it looked as if St. Edward's (0-2) would take a first half lead when junior Taylor Hickman sent a header past the Midwestern State goalkeeper but it hit off of the left post. The shot was just one of only two shots the Hilltoppers had all morning.
In the 88 thminute Taylor received a pass behind the defense from Paulo Teixiera and sent a shot across the box that hit the post and went in for the game-winner.
Midwestern State outshot St. Edward's, 18-2 and also had seven cornerkicks compared to just two for the Hilltoppers.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Sunday when they travel to take on Heartland Conference rival Incarnate Word. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at Benson Stadium in San Antonio, Texas.
