Hilltoppers defeat Riverhawks in overtime, 1-0

Box Score AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's men's soccer team walked away with a victory after making an overtime goal on Sunday afternoon. St. Edward's (7-4) had six shot opportunities in the first half but none of which connected with the goal.

The Hilltoppers outshot the Riverhawks 6-4 in the first half. In the second half of the match, neither Northeastern State (5-5) nor St. Edward's were given very many chances for shots on goal due to the aggressiveness of both defenses. At the end of the 90 minutes there was still no score and the match went into overtime.

Only two minutes into overtime, JR Ellis (Sophomore, Coppell, Texas) sent a cross to Joeski Williams (Senior, St. Paul, St. Kitts) who then flicked the ball to a wide-open Daniel Riley (Freshman, Keighley, England) in the 92 ndminute. Riley was then able to connect the ball with the back of the net to score the golden goal and give the Hilltoppers the win. T

his was his first goal of the season. "I saw the ball drop down and then I saw an opportunity to score," Riley said. "It's a challenge to come over here from England and play, and I'm really glad that I got my first goal."

The Hilltoppers will be back in action on Friday afternoon when they go head-to-head against Incarnate Word. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at the SEU Soccer Field.
