Hilltoppers fall to West Texas A&M, 2-1

Box Score CANYON, Texas – The St. Edward's men's soccer team could not capitalize against West Texas A&M Thursday evening, as they fell 2-1.

West Texas A&M (7-6-3) opened the scoring early on in the 20th minute when Omar Tena found the back of the Hilltopper net. The Buffalos would maintain most of the possession throughout the first half preventing St. Edward's (4-9-4) from taking any shots.

Before the end of the first half, in the 44th minute Isaias Miramontes would take a long shot outside the box making the match 2-0 at the half.

In the second half, West Texas A&M continued to control the ball, but in the 81st minute when St. Edward's James Martin (Junior, Hayward's Heath, England) would put the Hilltoppers on the board making the match 2-1, in favor of the Buffalo. Andrew Fox (Freshman, Cambridge, England) would assist on the play. The match would end this way.

St. Edward's had eight cornerkicks compared to just seven for West Texas A&M. The Buffalos outshot the Hilltoppers, 10-1.

The Hilltoppers will be back in action Saturday when they travel to take on UT-Permian Basin. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. Live coverage will be available on the UT-Permian Basin Athletic Website.
