AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's men's soccer team improved to 7-3-2 on the season after beating Oklahoma Christian 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Hilltoppers have now gone the past seven games without a loss.
In the first half, St. Edward's outshot Oklahoma Christian 13-3, but was unable to cash in on multiple opportunities. The Hilltoppers first shot came in the fourth minute when Sam Burn's shot hit the post. In the seventh minute,
ANDERSON MCDANIEL's shot was saved by Oklahoma Christian goalkeeper Tim Spencer. Spencer made another save in the 19
th minute on a shot by
JAMES MARTIN. Spencer would make a total of four saves in the match including in the 34
th minute on a shot by McDaniel. St. Edward's goalkeeper
JOHN KASCHAK made one save in the half on a shot by Domenico DeGrazia in the ninth minute of action.
In the second half, the Hilltoppers would quickly find the back of the net. In the 51
st minute,
DANIEL RILEY sent in a header off an assist by
KYLE PUJATS. The goal was Riley's team leading eighth goal of the season. St. Edward's would miss on two chances in the 58
th minute.
ANDREW FOX's shot went wide left and
KESTON SMITH's shot sailed right.
In the 73th minute of play, the game was delayed for 45 minutes due to lightning.
After the delay, the Hilltoppers would be rewarded a free kick off a foul by Oklahoma Christian's Duc Huynh in 84
th minute. Fox would take kick from 20 yards out and send the ball over the wall and into the net. The goal was Fox's sixth on the year. Oklahoma Christian's last chance for a goal came in the 86
th minute when Ricardo Chinchilla's shot went wide left.
“I was proud of the way we played and the way we created many different ways to give us a chance to score,” said head coach
Brian Young. “Andy Fox had another great free kick that finished off the game.”
St. Edward's will be back in action on Thursday when travel to Odessa to take on UT Permian Basin. Action will begin at 7:30.
