WICHITA, Kan. – The St. Edward's volleyball team will return to the Hilltop after outlasting the Jets of Newman Saturday afternoon in four sets, 23-25, 25-20, 25-23, and 25-23.

In the first set, St. Edward's (11-5, 6-3 HC) hung with Newman (3-12, 1-7 HC) early on trading leads. Down by two, 12-10, the Hilltoppers took advantage of three Jet errors and kills from ELISSA STANTON and HANNAH RAUCH put them ahead, 15-12. Newman responded with short rallies as St. Edward's was unable to extend its lead. With the Hilltoppers up by three, 21-18, Haley Dotson led a 7-2 run for the Jets as Newman took the first set, 25-23.

After dropping the first set, St. Edward's answered in the second set taking a commanding 11-6 lead with the help of offensive miscues of the Jets and numerous kills from the Hilltoppers. As Newman worked to close the gap, Stanton sparked a six-point run at 16-14 with a kill followed by Rauch registering three kills in a row to bring St. Edward's lead to 21-14. The Jets desperately looked for a rally to bring the set within reach but the defense of the Hilltoppers aided in the 25-20 set two victory.

St. Edward's carried that momentum into the third set with an early 6-1 lead with MEREDITH BARD accounting for two kills in the run. The Hilltoppers continued to add points to their lead keeping the Jets just out of reach. Bard would close out the set with a kill as St. Edward's would go on to win, 25-23.

Hoping for a fifth set, Newman came out swinging in the fourth set as Dotson led the Jets to a 4-1 lead. Another kill from Rauch denied any long rally as the Hilltoppers were back in the set. Tied, 12-12, Newman found an opening for a five-point run but its luck ran out as more errors for the Jets helped St. Edward's regain the lead, 21-20. The two teams traded points before Bard finished the match with her 15th kill as the Hilltoppers won, 25-23.

For St. Edward's COURTNEY TREVINO finished alongside Bard with a double-double tallying 11 kills and 17 digs. Rauch ended with 10 kills as MARY MCNAMARA accounted for 29 assists.

For the Jets, Dotson had a double-double with 22 kills and 14 digs with teammate Katelyn Schmidtberger finishing with 18 kills.

The Hilltoppers will continue conference play as they host Dallas Baptist on Wednesday night in the Recreation and Convocation Center at 7 p.m. Live stats and video will be available on the Hilltopper website.
