Final Results
SEASIDE, Calif – The St. Edward's men's golf team finished the last tournament of the fall in fourth place at the Otter Invitational. The tournament was held at the 6,887-yard par-72 Bayonet Golf Course.
Sixth-ranked Western Washington (299-302-296=897) who finished just two shots ahead of the Hilltoppers, occupied third place. Host CSU-Monterey Bay (285-307-282=874) took home first place, with #1 Nova Southeastern (299-290-289=878).
DREW BELL (68-79-73=220) led the tournament after day one but slipped to ninth place when it was all said and done.
JOSE HERNANDEZ led the way for the St. Edward's (299-301-298=898) during the two-day tournament. He finished tied for 18
th shooting a three-round total of 224, while making eight birdies. He shot a combined four-under par on par-5 holes for the tourney. Hernandez was leading the tournament during the first day of action. Teammate
BRIAN SMITH finished two shots behind Hernandez and completed the tournament tied for 24
th.
DAVID ARISMENDY and
ENRIQUE LIVAS both finished with a tournament total of 227. They both finished the tournament tied in the 28
th spot.
ANDRES RODAS kept pace with his teammates throughout the second and third round shooting a 75 and 77. He finished the tournament with a total of 235 and tied for 50
th.
Men's golf coach
Todd Ohlmeyer looks to build on this tournament for the spring season, he commented after the tournament, “This was a good way to finish off the semester against a very strong field. This will be something to build on in the spring. We are an inexperienced team but got better each week. The guys are looking forward to next semester.”
To recap on the fall season, the St. Edward's men's golf team started the season by competing The Brickyard Invitational. The Brickyard hosted teams such as #1 ranked Nova Southeastern and #4 CSU-Stanislaus. The Hilltoppers finished the tournament in 12
th place.
BRIAN SMITH shot a 70 during the first round, which resulted in the lowest round of his team during the tournament.
In the second tournament, the Hilltoppers took part in the Macdonald Cup hosted by Yale University. Hernandez and Livas set the tone for their team shooting a 69 on the opening round of the tournament. This NCAA Division I tournament hosted teams such as St. John's, Notre Dame and Harvard. The Hilltoppers concluded the tournament in the eighth position.
The Ryan Palmer Foundation Invite was the third tournament the Hilltoppers took part in. The field of 96-golfers was held at the Tascosa Country Club in Amarillo. St. Edward's started strong finishing the first day of action tied with I-35 rival St. Mary's. This was in large to Hernandez's stellar play throughout the first two rounds. He would shoot two rounds under par to lead the tournament after the first day. The Hilltoppers would stumble to a fifth place finish in the tournament.
St. Edward's will start its spring season at the Matlock Invitational in Lakeland, Florida. The three-day event will start on February 11, 2013 at the Lone Palm Golf Club.
