AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Metro State in the second round of the NCAA tournament Sunday afternoon at Lewis-Chen Field.
St. Edward's (18-3) had the first opportunity of the match in the 10
th minute when the Hilltoppers were awarded a cornerkick.

In the 19
th minute, Metro State (15-5-2) had its own chance at a goal when Tess Hegenlock had a shot on goal but Hilltopper goalkeeper
DANIELLE LICARIONE was there for the save.
Finally, in the 38
th minute the Hilltoppers got on the board. After a foul on Roadrunner midfielder Aubrey Fondy set up a free kick from 30 yards out.
VALENCIA MOBLEY sent the free kick into the box and
MIKAYLA ENGEL was there for the header into the net for her team-leading 16
th goal.
The Roadrunners would have the last chance in the first half when Shursteen Sharpe got a pass inside the box but her shot went wide right and the game headed to the break, 1-0, in favor of St. Edward's.
In the second half, it was Metro State who came out firing. In the 50
th minute, it was the Roadrunners who gained a cornerkick. Abby Rolph took the cornerkick and found Karisa Price on the back post for the header through traffic and into the net. It was Price's team-leading 16
th goal of the season.
For the next 25 minutes the play was restricted to midfield, as both teams controlled the game with its defense.
Down the stretch, Metro State continued to gain cornerkicks on the Hilltoppers and in the 82
nd minute it capitalized on it. It was Rolph who took the cornerkick again and this time she found Nicole Pollack who headed it through the crowd of people and into the net for a 2-1 Metro State lead.
With time winding down, the Roadrunner defense did not allow the Hilltoppers to register a shot as they took the 2-1 upset victory.
Metro State outshot St. Edward's, 9-5. Licarione registered four saves.
St. Edward's ends its 2012 season with a school-record 18 wins and is currently the top-scoring team in the nation. They will only lose two seniors and return tons of talent next season.
