AUSTIN, Texas – On a rainy Sunday afternoon, a defensive struggle between St. Edward's and #5 Midwestern State ended in a 0-0 tie. The rain created a wet playing surface that made things difficult for both offenses. With the rain creating safety concerns late in the second half, the game was called. The 0-0 result counts because 70 minutes of play was reached.

In the first half of play, St. Edward's was outshot 11-2. The Hilltoppers' first shot on goal came in the game's 10th minute. A header attempt by KYLE RUCK was saved by Midwestern State goalkeeper Ray Clark.

Over the next 15 minutes of play, the Midwestern State Mustangs would take six shots including five on goal. St. Edward's goalkeeper JOHN KASCHAK would make every save in this span. In the 22nd minute, the Mustangs would test Kaschak twice. Kascak would first save an attempt from Mustang Aaron Douthit and then save an attempt off the ricochet by B.A. Catney.

St. Edward's ANDREW FOX's header attempt would sail to the left of the goal in the 34th minute of action. Just before the end of the half, Kascak would make the save on an attempt by Mustang Idi Camara.

Just two shots were taken in the condensed second half. In the 48th minute, a shot by Mustang Andrew Power was blocked by the Hilltopper defense. In the 65th minute, ANDREW FOX's attempt was blocked. With the player's safety in mind, the referee called the game after 70 minutes of play.

Coach Young said this after the game, “the conditions did not suit our style of play. The conditions actually favored Midwestern State. We were playing well out there. It's unfortunate that the field became unplayable. Overall, we're glad to get our second straight shutout.”

St. Edward's will be back in action on Thursday when they host UT-Permian Basin. Action will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Lewis-Chen Family Field. Live coverage will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
