AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to UA Fort Smith on Thursday evening at the Recreation and Convocation Center. The Lions took down the Hilltoppers, 25-20, 25-13, 25-19 to stay in the top spot of the Heartland Conference with Dallas Baptist.

St. Edward's (5-5, 2-2 HC) and UA Fort Smith (9-1, 3-0 HC) went toe-to-toe for the first few points, tying the score, 5-5. The Lions inched out to a 12-11 lead, before rallying for three-straight points to force the Hilltoppers into a timeout at 15-11. St. Edward's would cut the lead to 18-16, but UA Fort Smith would pull away down the stretch. Heidi Luks was spectacular for the Lions, registering six kills in nine attempts in set one.
In the second set, it was all Lions as they raced out to a 15-9 lead and never looked back. They would hit .619 as a team in set two, only making one error and tallying 14 kills in 21 attempts.
Set three saw St. Edward's stand tall for the majority of the time. They were all tied with UA Fort Smith, 17-17, before the Lions rattled off four-straight points to take control of the set and the match.
COURTNEY TREVINO and Ale'tra Ware each had seven kills, while
HANNAH RAUCH added six kills. Loren Kelley dished out 16 assists, while
MICHELLE HUNDT led the team with 13 digs.
Luks led the Lions with 16 kills, while Jordan Pickett added 13 of her own. Whitney Hale tallied 22 assists and Stephanie Brock dished out 20 assists. Emily McCollum produced 14 digs.
The Hilltoppers will be back in action Saturday when they host Heartland Conference rival, Newman. First serve is set for 12 p.m. at the Recreation and Convocation Center. Live video and stats are available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
