St. Edward’s finishes 10th at The Challenge at Onion Creek

Ryanne Haddow
AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's women's golf team couldn't overcome a difficult start during the first two rounds, and a field full of Division I teams, during the final day of The Challenge at Onion Creek. This is the first time since the Fall 2011 season that St. Edward's didn't bring home the trophy. As a team, the Hilltoppers were competing against Kansas State and Michigan for the eighth through 10th spots.

After a solid first day, RYANNE HADDOW couldn't replicate the success of the first two rounds. She finished the day shooting a 79 and finished within the top-20. Her tournament total equaled 224 and placed her tied for 19th.

MARISSA BRANSBURG had the best third round of her teammates on the final round. After a pair of 81's for the first two rounds, Bransburg dropped four strokes and shot a 77 to finish the tournament in 49th place.

ALYSSA SMITH finished the day shooting an 82 and was ranked third amongst her team. HALEY HAUGHT posted her best round of the tournament shooting a 79 during the third round. They both would finish tied for 50th and 52nd, respectively.

ISABEL MORALES, competing in her first collegiate tournament, had difficulty mimicking her success that she saw during her second round. She shot an 88 in her final round to finish 55th.

Head coach Jennifer McNeil commented on the final round of play, "This definitely was not our best tournament but a great experience playing with some Big 12 and Big 10 schools. We now just have to regroup, work out some issues, and get ready for the Dallas Baptist tournament in a few weeks."

The Hilltoppers will be back in action Oct. 14-15 as they participate at the Dallas Baptist Classic hosted by Heartland Conference opponent Dallas Baptist. The two-day event will take place at the 6,719-yard, Par-70 Golf Club of Dallas.
