SANTA ROSA, Calif. – The St. Edward's women's golf team has capped off their fall season with a third place finish at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational. The Hilltoppers improved their first round score by eight strokes and jumped from seventh place to third. St. Edward's shot a 308 for the second round.
HALEY HAUGHT bettered her round one score by one stroke and shot a 74 during the second round of play. Haught (75-74=149) finished the tournament alone in second place, just two strokes behind the winner Andrea Castellanos of Cal State East Bay. Head Coach
Jennifer McNeil commented on the play of Haught, "I'm pleased with Haley's tournament and this should provide a lot of confidence for her going into the spring."
Senior
RYANNE HADDOW finished second amongst the Hilltoppers and tied for 24
th individually. Haddow was one of four Hilltoppers who improved their round one score during the second round. She finished the second day shooting a 78, a three-stroke improvement. Haddow completed the tournament with a score of 159.
MARISSA BRANSBURG and
BRIANNA VOGEL finished the tournament tied for 27
th individually with an overall score of 160. Bransburg shot a 77 during round two, while Vogel shot a 79.
ALYSSA SMITH ended the final day of competition with a score of 83. Smith finished two strokes behind teammates Bransburg and Vogel
, shooting a 162. Smith completed the tournament in middle of the field, tied for 35
th.
HALEY HAUGHT continued her outstanding play through the second round of play. She led the field of 70 players with 26 pars. Haught also led the field with a +4 average on all par-4 holes. She birded four holes during the 36-hole tournament. Haught and teammates Haddow and Smith had an even scoring average through the par-5 holes, which was good enough for third overall. The Hilltoppers led the field with 100 pars collectively on the two-day event.
McNeil was proud of her team's resiliency heading into the second round, "We played better today and at stretches really were making a move, but unfortunately it was too little too late. I'm proud of how they battled and the determination they showed and I look forward to a positive spring season."
The Hilltoppers have completed the fall season and will be back in action on Feb. 17, 2014 when they compete at the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational. The two-day event will be at the 6,113-yard par-72 Dominion Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.
