AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's sophomore ADAM BONVILLE scored two goals and assisted on three others to lead the #13 Hilltoppers to a 9-0 rout of UT-Permian Basin Saturday afternoon at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
UT-Permian Basin (6-9, 2-4 HC) had started the first two weeks of the season ranked nationally. They showed that in the first 14 minutes of action, holding St. Edward's (10-2-1, 6-0 HC) to just one shot and taking two of its own.
The Hilltoppers responded by showing the Falcons why they are ranked in this week's national poll. DANIEL RILEY notched his 12th goal of the season in the 15th minute when ADAM BONVILLE sent a cross in to the box and found Riley who sent it in to the back of the net. NATE COONS made it 2-0 in the 31st minutes scoring an unassisted goal to give him two on the season. Riley scored the final goal of the first half, when he connected on a rebound shot in the 39th minute on an assist from KYLE PUJATS. St. Edward's outshot the Falcons, 13-3 in the first frame.
In the second half, the Hilltoppers turned it on even more. Bonville would score his first goal of the game just five minutes into the period on an assist from CHAZ WASHINGTON. HAIDEN STILES, who saw his first action of the match to start the second half, immediately made an impact scoring right after Bonville to make it 5-0. KARL DEZOETEN assisted on the play. Stiles wouldn't stop there as he scored two more goals. One came in the 57th minute and the other in the 62nd minute. Bonville assisted on both goals. Bonville scored his second goal of the match in the 77th minute on a pass from JOSH TAYLOR to make it 8-0. JASON AIKEN capped off the scoring with just 26 seconds left on an assist by SAM BURNS.
St. Edward's outshot the Falcons, 16-1 in the second half and 29-4 in the match. After scoring just two goals last week, the Hilltoppers busted out with 12 goals in the two matches this week.
The victory keeps the Hilltoppers in first place of the Heartland Conference, one game ahead of Texas A&M-International.
The Hilltoppers will resume action Monday at they host Heartland Conference opponent Lubbock Christian. Kickoff at Lewis-Chen Family Field is set for 12 p.m. Live stats and video will be available through the Hilltopper Athletic website.
