Box Score DALLAS, Texas – Outside Hitter
MARY KOEHLER pounded out a season-high 17 kills but that was not enough as St. Edward's fell to Dallas Baptist, 3-0, Thursday evening at the Burg Center. The Patriots downed the Hilltoppers, 25-16, 25-17, 26-24.
Dallas Baptist (5-10, 3-3 HC) opened the first set on a 15-5 run led by Tiara Iwegbu's five kills. Three kills by Koehler gave the St. Edward's (5-9, 3-3 HC) a 4-2 run and cut the lead to 16-9. Four-straight points by the Patriots put the set away for the home team as they coasted to a 25-16 victory.
In the second set, the Hilltoppers would hold close to the Patriots, 4-3, however, three-straight points by Dallas Baptist put the set in its favor. St. Edward's was never able to recover during the set, falling 25-17.
In the third set, the Hilltoppers fought the Patriots tooth-and-nail. With the score tied, 22-22, Dallas Baptist rallied for two points to gain match point. St. Edward's was able to fight them off with a service error from the Patriots and a big block by
TABITHA ELDER and
ANNA AYCOCK to knot the score again, 24-24. Dallas Baptist would take the match with a kill and a service ace, 26-24.
Koehler tallied 15 digs for her third double-double of the season.
KELLY JIMENEZ also had 15 digs, while
AMY JONES dished out 16 assists to lead St. Edward's.
St. Edward's will be back in action Saturday when they travel to take on conference-leader UA Fort Smith. First-serve is set for Noon at the Stubblefield Center. Live video and stats will be available on the Lion Athletic website.
