DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – RYANNE HADDOW shot even par to lead St. Edward's on the final day as the Hilltoppers held onto fourth place in the 2013 NCAA DII Women's Golf Championship at the Par-72, 6,228-yard Legends Course at LPGA International on Saturday.
St. Edward's (304-309-307-306=1226) ended in fourth place, defeating Grand Canyon (309-305-310-311=1235) by nine strokes and Tarleton State (320-301-303-318=1242) by 16 strokes. The Hilltoppers even had a lower final round score than four-time defending national champion Nova Southeastern, who shot a 309.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment for these kids,” head coach
Jennifer McNeil said. “I am so proud of their efforts and the grit and determination they showed all week at nationals. I am so thrilled for my seniors to go out on such a high note. We had a phenomenal season and I couldn't be happier for each of them and how the final chapter ended. What a great year, and what great kids.”
With St. Edward's grasp of fourth place slipping away, Haddow started the Hilltopper rally on the back nine. The junior was sitting at three-over after 11 holes, but then the putts started to drop. Haddow would make birdies at holes 13, 15 and 17 to go to even par. That rally would put her in the top-20 with a T-20 finish.
