Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's Women's Soccer team started the 2013 season by beating Southern Nazarene, 6-0. Junior CAILYN TRAPANI was the star of the game, notching a hat-trick in her first game back from an injury that caused her to miss the entire the 2012 season.

In the first half, the Hilltoppers defense set the tone. The ball was rarely on the defensive side of the field. Goalkeeper DANIELLE LICARIONE was tested just once when Southern Nazarene's Mallary Schaub's shot in the 40th minute sailed high. On the offensive side, St. Edward's had difficulty capitalizing on opportunities. The Hilltoppers managed nine shots in the half, but came away with just one goal in the first 45 minutes. The lone goal came in the 13th minute of action when Freshman Alex Bsaibes sent the ball over the keeper off a cross from LAUREN HELLER.

In the second half, the St. Edward's offense exploded for five goals. Sophomore VALENCIA MOBLEY scored in the opening minute of the half when she launched a shot over the keeper from about 30 yards out.

The first of Trapani's three goals came in the 54th minute. Trapani beat the keeper to left side of the goal off another assist from Heller. Trapani's second goal came off a cross from RACHEL MURRAY in the 60th minute. Trapani's third goal came in the 77th minute when she beat the keeper from 20 yards out.

MIKAYLA ENGEL, last season's leading scorer, notched the team's final goal in the 82nd minute. Engel beat the keeper high off a rebound. Assists were awarded to Bsaibes and JESSICA WILLIAMSON.

St. Edward's had valuable contributions from several of the team's newcomers. Transfers AMBER GUENTHER and KATIE DONAHUE each started and made their presence felt. Freshman goalkeeper LORRIE SANTOY replaced Licarione in the second half and kept up the shutout.

The Hilltoppers return to action on Sunday when they take on Texas Woman's University.
Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m. at Lewis-Chen Family Field. Live video and stats will be available through the Hilltopper Athletic website.
