DALLAS, Texas. – St. Edward's senior midfielder,
ANDREW FOX, recorded his first career hat trick, leading the 23
rd-ranked Hilltoppers past Dallas Baptist in its first Heartland Conference matchup Saturday night at Patriot Field.
St. Edward's (6-2-1, 1-0 HC) got off to a picturesque start, scoring in the second minute of action. Fox ripped a shot from the left side of the box to beat the keeper and put the Hilltoppers up 1-0.
Nearly 10 minutes later, Fox found himself with a free kick from 20 yards out. Fox confidently found the back of the net, putting his team ahead, 2-0, early in the affair. The senior captain would not stop there.
Two minutes later, a similar situation was presented for Fox, with another free kick from 20 yards out. Surely enough, Fox found a hole, giving his team a commanding 3-0 lead. While recording his third goal of the game, Fox also tallied his seventh goal on the year, tying his total from the 2013 season.
"Fox had three professional quality goals in the first half," head coach Brian Young said. "He looked very good in training this week and I think he is hitting very good form right now, as are many players around him."
The Hilltopper defense would hold strong for all 90 minutes, as Dallas Baptist (3-6, 0-1 HC) garnered a mere two shots on goal, and St. Edward's would go on to win the contest, 3-0.
Today's match marks the fifth shutout for goalkeeper
KEVIN LEIB and the Hilltopper defense, and its fourth in its last five games.
"Dallas Baptist is a tough team and getting another good result on the road adds a lot of character," Young said.
Fox finished with a game high seven shots, while fellow midfielder
JOSH TAYLOR recorded three of his own.
The Hilltoppers will look to cap off its current seven-game road stand with a win Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. against Oklahoma Christian.
