Hilltoppers hit century mark in 101-40 victory over Paul Quinn

AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's Women's Basketball team defeated Paul Quinn College 101-40, Saturday afternoon at the Recreation and Convocation Center. It was the second-largest margin of victory in school history, 61 points.

Paul Quinn (0-2) hit the first field goal of the game, taking a 3-2 lead early in the affair. However, that would be the only lead the Tigers held all afternoon.

For the remainder of the first half, St. Edward's (3-0) would display a balanced attack, acquiring contributions from all players and getting solid contributions off the bench.

At the break, St. Edward's led 48-20. LEXI FATHEREE had eight points and two rebounds at intermission. Teammate KHIANI CLARK recorded six points and four rebounds as well.

The second half would be no different as the Hilltoppers continued to dominate. Four Hilltoppers tallied double-digit scoring days and 14 different Hilltoppers netted a basket.

St. Edward's freshmen reserve, ESSENCE SAULS, topped the scoring column, as she had a game-high 17 points. Sauls, who had four points coming into the game, showed her best outing of the early season.

"I was very pleased with the contributions from our bench today and the energy they brought into the game," head coach J.J. Riehl said. "We did not shoot particularly well but found a nice presence on the offensive glass that really contributed to our success."

The HIlltoppers would cruise to its third victory of the year. No St. Edward's Women's Basketball team since1993, has won by a greater margin. The 1992-93 team defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor, 112-47.

"While we have produced three positive results, as a team we need to continue to improve in areas such as ball movement and decision making against the zone," Riehl claimed.

St. Edward's will find out what they are made of Tuesday, as they travel to Nacogdoches, Texas to take on Division I Stephen F. Austin in an exhibition matchup.

"I'm excited for the upcoming week. I think it will be really good for our team to get out on the road together. It will be a tough test for our young team, but a test that we need at this stage of the season," remarked Riehl.

Tip off is set for 7 p.m. Live coverage will be available through the Lady Jacks Athletic Website.
