Hilltoppers fly past Eagles, 66-44

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The St. Edward's Women's Basketball team completed its first weekend of Heartland Conference play with a convincing win over Oklahoma Christian, 66-44, Saturday afternoon at the Eagles' Nest.

St. Edward's (8-2, 2-0 HC) got off to a fast start behind two baskets from Thursday night's leading scorer, MILEKA LOYDRAKE. Her offensive counterpart, LEXI FATHEREE would drain a three-pointer from the top of the key and force Oklahoma Christian (3-7, 0-2 HC) to call an early timeout.

Fatheree would continue her offensive success for the Hilltoppers, as she would go 4-for-4 from the field in the first half. Forward KHIANI CLARK also had an impressive first half, recording eight points and nine rebounds. St. Edward's would lead Oklahoma Christian, 36-19 at the half.

St. Edward's, determined to head into the holidays with a win, would come out strong in the second half as well.

The Eagles would prove no match on the afternoon for the Hilltoppers, failing to cut the deficit to less than 14 points at any moment in the second half.

Fatheree steadied the offense with 17 points in the contest. Clark came off of the bench to record 11 points, and a season-high 12 rebounds. Loydrake added nine points.

Pleased with her team's performance, not only today, but also thus far this year, Head Coach J.J. Riehl said, "We played really well today. We came out focused and ready for everything that they threw at us defensively. Our bench was also very solid today. JAIMIE KADLECEK was big on both ends of the floor, and KHIANI CLARK was really good tonight."

"I am really proud of our group. Today, was a team effort, from 1 to 15, with everyone being equally important," Riehl said.

St. Edward's will back in action after the holidays when they host Arkansas Fort Smith on Jan. 1st. Tipoff is set for noon at the Recreation and Convocation Center. Live video and stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
