#18 Hilltoppers drop 3-1 contest to Texas Woman’s

DENTON, Texas - The 18th-ranked St. Edward's Hilltoppers fell to Texas Woman's Sunday afternoon by a score of 3-1 at Pioneer Field.

Both teams traded shots in the first half and St. Edward's once again looked to its bench for a spark. Valencia Mobley had an opportunity in the 44th minute to give the Hilltoppers a lead, however the Pioneer goalkeeper Ariana Morrison made the save to preserve a 0-0 halftime score.

Things started to heat up in the second half as the Pioneers began to press the St. Edward's defense. Nancy Chavez found the back of the net in the 52nd minute after receiving a pass from Natalia Diaz to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers struck again just three minutes later as Diaz scored her sixth goal of the season in the 54th minute. Megan Coppedge found Diaz at the top of the box and the shot managed to beat Hilltopper goalkeeper Lorrie Santoy, as it was perfectly placed in the top left corner of the goal.

St. Edward's answered the bell in the 69th minute to bring the score to 2-1. Julia Harrison scored her first goal of the season after the keeper deflected a free kick from Jennifer Boudreau. Harrison was there at the doorstep for the tap in. However, Texas Woman's managed to win a penalty kick in the 70th minute and Diaz capitalized to give the Pioneers a 3-1 lead.

The Hilltoppers outshot the Pioneers, 12-7, and had six shots on goal compared to five for the home team.

St. Edward's dropped to 4-2. They will be back in action Friday against Dallas Baptist at Lewis-Chen Family Field with a 4 p.m. start time. This will be a non-conference matchup with the Patriots. Live video and stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
